Akemi Takada (高田明美, Takada Akemi, March 31 , 1955-) is a Japanese character designer, illustrator, and jewelry designer. She got her start with Tatsunoko Production in the late 1970s, in doing character design work for Gatchaman II.
Bio[]
After graduating from Tama Art University, she joined Tatsunoko after having went on a tour there and been a great fan of their works. She would admit to having become hooked on the company due to her love of the original Science Ninja Team Gatchaman series as well as its protagonist Ken, and state "Without Gatchaman, I probably would not have entered the anime world."[1]
She took an entrance exam to the studio which involved a test to design guest characters for Paul's Miraculous Adventure. She passed the exam, and was allowed to be part of the directing department for three months in learning how to put together animation. Impressed by her work, Tatsuo Yoshida would assign her to the Character Room[2].
Takada would eventually get her chance to do character designs, in collaboration with Yoshitaka Amano, for both Gatchaman sequels. After that stint with the franchise at Tatsunoko, she became a freelancer in 1981, with her first job after being for Studio Pierrot on Urusei Yatsura.
In 2003, she became interested in jewelry production, and in the spring of 2007, she launched her own brand, "ANGEL MYTHOS".
