Fire Bat is a bat-themed Iron Beast Mecha that appears in episode 51 of Gatchaman II, Sad Gel Sadra (September 23, 1978).

Background

While labeled an Iron Beast Mecha, the Fire Bat was more like a gigantic jet vehicle / super weapon over an animal-based robot but is still considered a mechanical monster despite its form. True to its name, Fire Bat can shoot heat-rays from its bat ear-like antenna and generate massive amounts of heat, encasing itself in a destructive heat-shield while flying at impressive speeds. Fire Bat appears as one of the few fully autonomous Iron Beast Mecha, lacking any Galactor crews to man it.

Alterations in English Adaptations

For Eagle Riders, the Fire Bat is renamed The Stealth Bat and appeared in episode 46, Allegiance and Amends, adapted from Sad Gel Sadra. Beyond the name change, The Stealth Bat's role is exactly the same as its source origin.

Trivia

• Fire Bat's continuous engine roars are that of the famous sound effects used for the Tardis from the long-running British science fiction series Doctor Who.
