Galactor is a terrorist organization that served as the main antagonist group in Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and its sequels.

History[]

Galactor was founded by the enigmatic alien lifeform Leader X having used a mafia group and remodeling it into a full-fledged terrorist group that Earth defenses were powerless against. Through their advanced technology and manpower, they strove to control planet Earth and its natural resources. It was not until ISO had deployed the Science Ninja Team that their plans of conquest or annihilation of Earth were being constantly delayed or thwarted.

It is said that Galactor contains at least over 1 million members, and had taken advantage of the chaos caused by the last world-wide war to be able to rule over several countries. They aim to intervene and exploit various political and economic matters, and their rapid growth is due to the easy cooperation of like-minded criminal organizations from all over the world.

Technology[]

Galactor had some of the most advanced technology on Earth, having been supplied by Sosai X, able to create monstrous mecha that can be controlled by an entire group of soldiers. The organization's s combined cientific power is equivalent to or even greater than that of the International Science and Technology Agency.

Thanks to the abilities supplied by X, they are greatly involved in both genetic engineering and the manufacturing of custom metals.

Members[]

Divisions[]

The Galactor hierarchy ranges from mere soldiers, to chiefs, captains, and then commanders. Soldiers are rewarded medals for their victories, and 20 will equal a promotion to a commander of their troop. There are also shown to be families involved in Galactor, whose children are born into the organization and are forbidden to leave it in order to protect its secrets. The only way that they depart is through death, be it by battle or being killed by Katse for their failure.

Alterations in International Adaptations[]

USA[]

Battle of the Planets[]

This version had the Galactor organization changed to being a terrorist force from another planet named "Spectra", with X referred to as "The Great Spirit" and being their leader. It is stated that the Spectrans want to conquer other planets in order to replenish their own dying resources. Katse is referred to as Zoltar, while the female commander of Galactor (later revealed to be Katse's female form) was adapted into four separate characters, one of them identified as Zoltar's sister named Mala.

G-Force: Guardians of Space[]

This following dub had Berg Katse himself named Galactor and stated to be an alien wishing to conquer Earth, with X relegated to being his assistant and an articifial intelligence named Computor.

Eagle Riders[]

The Galactor organization was referred to as The Vorak, a race of alien androids from outer space who have tried to conquer Earth. X was renamed Cybercon. The claims that the soldiers were only androids allowed their deaths to bypass the censors, even if the animation footage may have suggested otherwise (especially with some retained bleeding and pain).

In the case of the II portion of Eagle Riders, Gel Sadra was renamed Mallanox, while Marstora was Krall. When it came time to adapt Fighter, Count Egobossler was rewritten to be the second form of Mallanox and also rather infamously renamed Happy Boy. His subordinates in turn were named Vax and Olaf.

Any references to Berg Katse from the original series that came up in Eagle Riders had him renamed Lukan, and at one point it is even claimed that he is Mallanox's father (though later twists and competing dub writers' takes on Mallanox's origin may complicate this).

Trivia[]

  • The Galactor name was previously used in Space Ace for the name of a villainous organization in episode 23, as well as having appeared in the shelved Sky Fighter Z as the name of another villainous organization that Bunta was to fight against. The name stemmed from the combination of the English word Galaxy, as well as the Japanese term gyarakuta, meaning "junk" (which is paid nod to in the first episode with Jinpei calling them "Gyarakuta", or "Junkactor" in the ADV dub).
