Synopsis[]
After Katse finishes killing Filiku, he is brought before an angered Leader X who believes he's been wasting his time rather than actually contributing to making sure Galactor succeeds. Katse assures the supply chain problem has been taken care of, and then goes to address the various Galactor soldiers, informing them of the threat Zar Malvirteco had posed to him and that a traitor is among their ranks.
A Blackbird insists he should help Katse, but is shut down in that proposal as Katse warns the troops to trust nobody among them. In the barracks, the green troopers chat about the situation but then see that a laundry man has been listening in and mock him. They continue to discuss the possibility of a traitor, figuring it has to come from the Blackbirds or Devil Stars. The laundry man smiles and departs, revealing himself to be Katse as he sheds his disguise in his dressing room.
Katse muses over how X is the one to protect his secret as a mutant, and how the Lupos want him dead for having slaughtered them in founding Galactor. He looks over at four possible moles in the organization; two green henchmen, a Blackbird, and a Devil Star.
Elsewhere, a "Mister Canis" is approached by an underling Carlo about the Galactor situation. Canis, revealing himself to be the new Don Lupo, reveals he's planted several moles in Galactor and that he also knows Katse's secret of being a mutant made from two embryos.
Back at the Galactor base, Katse muses over which suspect to kill first, and it's then shown he settled on the Blackbird; his fellow squad members find the man dead of a broken back and neck, and his room flooded. Katse enters to "investigate", thinking over how this display is an act of power to let them know he knows of the traitors. Two Galactor grunts discuss the Blackbird's death while working on a mecha, but when one brings up the "Mafia" to the other's confusion, it provides an opportunity for the grunt to snap the other's wrist and out him as a Lupo member.
Katse, in his continued guise as a grunt, implores the other to reveal the other Lupo members but is told that they all don't know exactly who is who in disguise in the organization. Katse lets the other live, but only for minutes as he thinks of how he'll arrange his death by gunfire. He meets the Devil Star out on a flying platform, informing her that he knows of her ruse and could see her flinch once in their conversation. She teases that she could be a sociopath or that Katse is wrong about her, while Katse insists that recruits must have a sense of right or wrong and that it's not possible to fool him. However, Katse is quickly overpowered by the faster Devil Star, who whips out on a gun on him.
To his shock, he winds up shot in the abdomen as the treacherous Devil Star unmasks herself and explains each of the Lupos are skilled in a different way. The Lupo assassin reveals that she's a mutant like him, but rather than twins fused in the womb, she's composed of triplets and goes by the codename of "Skywolf". She states that her very birth and existence is to take out Katse, and she departs in her craft, leaving a wounded Katse bleeding in a cliffhanger to set up #3.
Trivia[]
- It is revealed in this issue that there would be others besides Leader X (and Dr. Nambu, as revealed later in the series) that know about Katse's unusual creation and upbringing.
