Prince Lukor (ルーカー殿下) is a guest character in Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, appearing in episode 19.

Background[]

Prince Lukor is the son of King LuMan. In order to save his country from his father who sold out to Galactor, he records the location of their secret bases and headquarters on microfilm and attempts to give it to the Science Ninja Team under the pretense of holding a large car race in his country. Ultimately, through the plot, Lukor winds up being one of the rare show guests who knows the true identities of all five Science Ninjas and survives.

Appearance[]

Lukor is a tall, slim, pale young man with long brown hair and sharp, deep blue eyes. He dresses in a lavender, wide-collared, long-sleeved shirt and teal bell-bottom jeans, with a yellow sweater vest worn over his shirt. Like the Ninja Team and other young people, he wears loafers; in his case, brown.

In his racer get-up, he wears a teal racing suit with yellow stripes, as well as a deep blue helmet and matching gloves and boots.

Personality[]

Lukor is quietly rebellious against his father and Galactor, planning to expose them to the ISO. Unfortunately, his hastiness in trying to flee Galactor goons leaves Berg Katse to easily catch on to his plan, due to a glove left behind. He greatly trusts the Science Ninjas, although their mission to expose Galactor is complicated by a goon stealing the microfilm during the race and then the film later burning up in an explosion.

Lukor is dedicated to making sure his country is free of corruption, and that the poor don't have to suffer any long while Galactor hoards all the money.

Relationships[]

King LuMan[]

The King is disappointed to find out his son was attempting to betray Berg Katse, and reminds him that such a thing would mean death. Lukor, however, is angered at his father for having fallen to greed and having let Galactor corrupt their country while citizens starve.

Lukor sticking to his principles in not handing the microfilm over is what leads to the King's death, leaving Lukor distraught.

Berg Katse[]

Lukor despises Katse and is open with his feelings enough to disparage Galactor and Katse in front of his father, which leads to Katse ordering the King killed as retaliation.

Alterations in International Adaptations[]

G-Force: Guardians of Space[]

He is renamed Prince Dominic, and the Kingdom of LuMan becomes The Kingdom of Monte d'Oro. When his father is shot, Dominic can be heard screaming for someone to get him to the hospital, although there is no hope for the King.

Voice Actors[]

Ikuo Nishikawa voiced Lukor, after having previously been well-known at Tatsunoko for having voiced the eponymous Sanshiro Kurenai (and going on to voice Tetsuya Azuma/Casshan).

English Adaptations[]

  • G-Force: Guardians of Space: ?
  • ADV dub: Gray Haddock

Trivia[]

  • The intended etymology of his name is uncertain. His father's name is meant to be a shout-out to the Le Mans auto race, which is rendered Ruman in Japanese. The ADV Films dub went with the Lukor spelling, while some previous English fan summaries had thought to use Luka. There is the theory his name may have meant to be a pun on "Looker", as in being a spy, though this is lost in localization and even Japanese fans seem to not be sure of the intent.
