Shigeru Yanagawa (柳川 茂 Yanagawa Shigeru, May 18, 1950-) is an anime screenwriter and planner that was regularly associated with Tatsunoko Production in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Bio[]

After graduating from Kanagawa Prefectural Sagamidai Technical High School, he joined Tatsunoko. He was assigned to the planning and literary department, where he was involved as a planner in a number of TV anime, including the Time Bokan Series and Paul's Miraculous Adventure. He also wrote the scripts for Kabatotto and Inakappe Taisho , among others.

In 1979, he married his colleague, designer Akiko Shimomoto (now known as Noa Kawai). Two years later, Shimamoto left Tatsunoko Productions to become a freelancer and by 1983, Yanagawa would leave the company himself to begin his career as a freelance screenwriter. He would become famous for the scripts for Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, along with Dream Warrior Wingman.

He would remain active into the 1990s on many popular TV series, including Sailor Moon, Akazukin Chacha, and Ranma 1/2, as well as returning to Tatsunoko projects to write two scripts for Kiramekiman. In more recent years, he and his wife became better associated with being childrens' picture book authors, particularly for Christian stories as they were both baptized as such.
