Time Bokan: Royal Revival (タイムボカン王道復古) was a short OVA series by Tatsunoko Production, reviving the Time Bokan franchise and released through 1993 to 1994. It is notable for including many other Tatsunoko characters in cameos and guest roles including the cast of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.

Overview[]

This work was created as a celebration of Tatsunoko's 30th Anniversary, so it features various characters from the company's history. The first episode is a Wacky Races-style race in which the Evil Trios from each of the Time Bokan series compete against each other in an anything-goes race , with the winner getting to play the lead role in the next episode. The second episode follows the format of Yatterman as is, and is set in the fictional city of the Tatsunokon Kingdom where many of the Tatsunoko characters live.

Although it is part of the Time Bokan series, the second series of Yatterman and the work Yatterman Night do not acknowledge this OVA at all.

Overseas Licensing[]

USA[]

Time Bokan: Royal Revival was initially licensed by Central Park Media in 2005. Due to the lack of familiarity with Tatsunoko characters, including the Time Bokan cast, the dub of the OVA had several mistranslations and some unusually localized names such as calling Hurricane Polymar "Polimar the Mecha-Guerrilla".

Sentai Filmworks would later license-rescue the OVA in 2013, but re-used the old Central Park Media translation and dub, opting not to correct things (let alone even do a redub, likely due to cost matters).
